English Lesson on Food EC#11

Mr. El Moncef did some review on American foods in English
with his students after Ms. Welling's presentation.

If you notice, in this class, several students have on a white shirt. This is not a uniform, but something that some students and faculty put on over their regular clothes to keep their clothes from getting dirty/dusty. It is optional.

After reading "hot dog," some students were a bit confused about why Americans eat a hot dog.
Ms. Welling and I explained what a hot dog is made of and clarified that Americans hot dogs are not really made from dog meat.

Extra Credit Question #11
What are hot dogs really made of?
What is actually making up the hot dog meat?
When is national hot dog month in the United States?

  2. Hot dogs are not actually made out of pig snouts or meat scraps left on the floor, which is a very popular belief. They are usually made of a blend of meats, usually chicken, beef, pork, or turkey and then meat fat, oatmeal, bread crumbs, various seasonings, and other ingredients. They are then mushed together and put into hot dog molds. Store bought hot dogs are put into cellulose casings, but homemade are usually made of intestines.

  3. Mr. El Moncef seems to be a really nice teacher. He is so engaging and has a great time with his students. He gives them all the opportunity to participate. They all seem so smart and happy.

Most recipes for hot dogs are made with meats (pork, beef, chicken, or turkey), meat fat, a cereal filler which could be either bread crumbs, flour, or oatmeal, a little bit of egg white, many herbs and seasonings including garlic, pepper, ground mustard, nutmeg, salt, and onion.

Once these ingredients are grinded together, the stuffing is squeezed into sausage casings.
